What it remembers

DSOI keeps this as a remembrance-only observance. This observance remembers the defeat of Nicanor and his army by Judas Maccabeus and the people of Israel. Nicanor had threatened the sanctuary in Jerusalem. The priests prayed, and Judas also sought God’s help before the battle in which Nicanor was defeated.
